YWCA's Milestones honorees announced

  • THE YWCA 23rd annual Milestones: A Tribute to Women honorees have been announced. Each year, seven women from northwest Ohio are recognized for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions that have opened the doors for other women to achieve their potential. It is consistent with the YWCA’s mission as dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all, said Lisa McDuffie, president and CEO.


    This years honorees are Cynthia Thompson (arts); Debra Monagan (business); WilliAnn Moore (education); Denise Cubbon (government), Randa Mansour-Shousher (sciences); Jan Ruma (social services), and Sarah Skow (volunteerism).

    The presentation luncheon is at 11:30 a.m. March 28 at SeaGate Convention Centre. Tickets are $60 each, or $600 for a table of 10.

    THE Press Club of Toledo Ribs and Roast 2018 is at 6 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Premier banquet complex. The business-casual event will roast Mike Hart, president and CEO of HART, former Press Club board member, and dedicated community supporter. He's so nice, but roast we will.

    The fun night of hobnobbing with news makers and shakers includes a buffet of items such as the Broadcaster sandwich, chili, and more, a cash bar, and the program emceed by Tom Walton, retired editor and vice president of The Blade. He still writes a regular column for The Blade.

    Tickets are $50 per member and $75 per nonmember. Sponsorships include a private reception with an open bar: $1,000 for eight tickets, $500 for four tickets, $250 for two tickets, and $125 for one ticket.

    Proceeds benefit the Press Club of Toledo scholarships for journalism students.

    ONCE Upon a Vine presented by the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium at 6 p. m. Feb. 24. at the zoo will surely add spring to a winter day.

    It starts in the Nature’s Neighborhood exhibit with a live beehive, active leaf cutter ant colony, and other live animal exhibits. Guests will be transported via golf carts — a reminder that warm weather is not far off — to the Lodge for a gourmet meal paired with wines.

    The menu includes festive cocktails, appetizers, fancy soup, tasty salad, and choice of New York strip steak and baby portabellas, grilled salmon with mango and cilantro sauce, or spinach and feta manicotti with roasted red pepper sauce. All served with grilled asparagus with toasted cashews, and a surprise sinfully delicious dessert.

    The intimate event is limited to 140 people, so make your reservations.

    PROMEDICA'S next young professional Impact and Inspire event is at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at M’Osteria. The 10th event for the young professionals group will benefit Cherry Street Mission. In addition to mingling, there will be a brief presentation about Cherry Street, and a live trivia game with Sporcle Live!

    THE TOLEDO Opera’s winter gala is at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Toledo Club. Cocktails and a performance by Metropolitan Opera singers Kathryn Lewek, a soprano, and Zach Borichevsky, a tenor, will be followed by dinner and dancing. Tickets are $300 per person. Call 419-255-SING.
