RESTAURANT Week Toledo started Monday and will continue through Sunday.

The event, hosted by Leadership Toledo, is a great way to visit area eateries. More than 300 party-goers were privy to the kickoff event, an appetizer for what’s in store for this week. The soiree was at the Secor Building where sampling the tasty treats from 14 Restaurant Week participants and potent potables provided by Mancy’s Bottle Shop and Treu House of Munch were featured.

Leadership Toledo board President AJ Decker, Brad Augustyniak, Kimberly Minke, Christie McKinley, Milt Pommeranz, Ian and Mandi McClellan, Candice Harrison, Jordan and Whitney Rofkar, Jennifer McHugh, Tony Szczechowski, Bill Garbe, Jim Walrod, Michael Malone, Sara Swisher, Matt Lentz, Ken Leslie, Brian and Linette Trauring, Jordan Stoll, and David and Cindy Schlaudecker were among those in attendance.

A CABIN FEVER Charity Ball presented by the Axemen Professional Firefighters Motorcycle Club Ohio Chapter 1 was held at Toledo Harley-Davidson on Central Avenue.

The event included music by Ryan Roth and the Side Show, a cash bar, a dinner provided by City BBQ, Outlaw BBQ, and Tony Packo’s, a silent auction, and raffles. Axemen MC Michigan 1 (Detroit), the founding chapter of the national organization, won the bicycle build-off to benefit needy children.

The more than 150 revelers continued the fun at an after-party at the Barn on Centennial Road.

An estimated $5,500 was raised for charities, said event chairmen Bill Crosser and Sean Nagley.

ABOUT 300 members of the local advertising and marketing community attended the 2018 ADDY Awards sponsored by the American Advertising Federation Toledo at the Valentine Theatre.

Michael Seay, AAF fifth district governor and national board member, and Will Lucas, CEO of Creadio, served as emcees.

Four Judge’s Choice, nine gold ADDYs, 17 silver, and 11 bronze were selected from 181 entries. One student entry won a silver award, and four student entries earned bronze. Best of Show went to Madhouse for the Great Adventure Video Campaign created for Purdue Research Foundation.

The Silver Medal award, the AAF’s highest award for contribution to the advertising industry, was presented to Judy McFarland of Thread Marketing Group. The 2018 Honorary ADDY for community partnership was presented to Russ Grycza, instructor at Penta Career Center.

SPEAKING of awards, the Oscars are Sunday and the American Red Cross Northwestern Ohio Chapter is hosting its Oscar Night on Sunday at BMW of Toledo, a Yark Automotive Group dealership on Central Avenue. Formally clad guests can stroll the red carpet into an event of great foods by local restaurants, music, a silent auction, as the Academy Awards are aired.

BOY, was I surprised when I went to Pat Nowak and Steve Roberts’ lovely home for dinner and it was a surprise birthday party for me. Then the week continued with lots of calls and cards and more lunches and dinners with friends.Thanks to all. You added sunshine to my life.
