Caldwell leaving BG men's basketball program

BOWLING GREEN — Sophomore point guard Rodrick Caldwell announced that he will be leaving the Bowling Green State University men's basketball program.

BG confirmed the transfer of the 5-foot-11 Dayton native, who played his high school ball at Wayne High School in Huber Heights.

This past season Caldwell played in all but one of BG's 32 games, starting 21 times. He averaged 8.6 points, a team-high 2.6 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per contest. With 82 assists and just 44 turnovers, his 1.86 assist-to-turnover ratio was second-best on the team

Caldwell played in 32 games as freshman, including 12 starts — he started 11 of the Falcons' last 12 contests. As a freshman he averaged 6.8 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game, including a season-high 19 points at Central Michigan.

With the transfer of Caldwell and the graduation of senior Matt Fox, there are 10 players on the BG roster with scholarships for next season. With the verbal commitment of guard Caleb Fields to join the program, Falcons coach Michael Huger and his staff still have two scholarships available for the coming season.
