Paczki Day is coming on Feb. 13 and the ONE Village Council is ready: The annual Lagrange Street Paczki Sale will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, and 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday (or until they sell out).

Toledo’s historic Polish International Village is always a hub of activity, selling the pre-Lenten treats to raise funds for neighborhood projects and improvements. Flavors include apple, apricot, blueberry, chocolate, custard, lemon, and raspberry, as well as traditional prune-filled and plain.

Paczki cost $7 per half-dozen and $14 per dozen. Polish coffee cakes will also be sold for $12. For information, call 419-724-5640.

Call for chili teams to benefit Mobile Meals

It’s almost time for the 26th annual Mobile Meals of Toledo Great Chili Cook-off, so the call is going out for teams to sign up. The festive fund-raiser will take place from 12 to 4 p.m. March 24 at the Stranahan Great Hall, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd.

Teams compete in four categories: amateur, corporate, media, and restaurant. A team of area chefs and food specialists will judge the entries, and there is also the coveted People’s Choice Award voted on by attendees. Dei Fratelli, manufactured by the Hirzel Canning Co. and Farms of Northwood, is once again generously donating a variety of its tomato products for contestants to use in their chilis.

Proceeds will benefit Mobile Meals of Toledo, which provides nutritious meals to those who are home-bound and also distributes bags of healthy foods to at-risk children enrolled in its Weekender program.

The deadline to enter is March 1, and forms are available at mobilemeals.org. For more information, contact Carolyn Fox at 419-255-7806 or cfox@mobilemeals.org.
