To the editor: Let's ban weapons of war
3/9/2018I have been a hunter and outdoor enthusiast my entire life. Never once have I needed anything other than a sling shot, bow and arrow, shotgun, or rifle to harvest small and/or big game throughout the Midwest. Were I in the military, I would need the most sophisticated and effective weapons possible to defend the United States from our enemies, here and abroad.
However, there currently exists no need for non-military citizens of this country, or any other country, to possess such lethal weapons. If the need arises to defend our nation from attack, the U.S. military is more than adequately trained, prepared, and equipped to carry out this mission.
As a life member of the National Rifle Association, I urge the three branches of our federal, state, and local government to ban the manufacture, sale, and possession of military-style weapons by civilians. Buy them all back, destroy or supply our military with existing inventory, and pledge: “Never again.”

ProMedica is culpable
For many decades, I have held the clergy and the medical industry as noble in their purpose and mission and, with the exception of corrupt individuals, who unfortunately surface in every organization, deserving of my support and respect. For this reason, I was saddened and disappointed to learn that ProMedica has agreed to be complicit in the slaughter of babies. I thought the basic premise of the medical industry was ‘’to do no harm.”
Even though ProMedica has not committed to actually perform abortions, I think any court could reasonably convict them of aiding and abetting if it ever came to a criminal trial. We will all be held accountable for our actions or lack thereof. I cannot stand idly by and say or do nothing. Shame on you, ProMedica.
