Holy Trinity bake sale

It’s time for the annual Spring Bake Sale at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 740 N. Superior St. If you’ve missed all those handmade treats since the church’s festival in the fall, this is the time to indulge.

The following goodies are available: baklava ($2.50 apiece), finikia (honey-dipped cookies rolled in ground walnuts, $1 apiece), galaktobureko (phyllo-wrapped custard pastries, $1.50 apiece), kataifi (vermicelli-like dough wrapped around a sweet nut filling, $2 apiece), koulourakia (shaped butter cookies, $3/half-dozen), kourambiethes (shortbread cookies coated in powdered sugar, $1 apiece), paximathia (Greek biscotti, $3/half-dozen), tsoureki (braided sweet bread, $6.50 per loaf), and packages of phyllo dough ($2.50 each).

You can order online or find a hard copy of the form to download and mail in at toledo.buckeyedistrict11.org; pre-paid orders are due by March 25 and will be available for pick up at the church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 31 and April 1. The bake sale itself will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 1, for those who want to shop in person.

Dinner for dogs, cats

From 5 to 8 p.m. March 25, head to the Hilton Garden Inn, 6165 Levis Commons Blvd., Perrysburg, for a fabulous fund-raiser with a funny name: the Spay-ghetti and No Balls Dinner and Silent Auction. Proceeds will benefit Humane Ohio, which offers low-cost spay and neuter services for dogs and cats, as well as an adoption service for strays.

Guests will enjoy a buffet dinner, a wine pull, and live music. There will also be a silent auction, and here are just a few of the items you might win: a family membership to the Toledo Zoo, University of Toledo football tickets, a gift certificate to go sky diving, tickets to Disney World, and a piece of pottery from local favorite Jan Pugh.

Tickets cost $35 apiece and are available at humaneohio.org/spay-ghetti-no-balls-dinner-silent-auction. To volunteer at the event or to donate auction items, email volunteer@humaneohio.org.
