  • Multiple crashes were reported around northwest Ohio during Tuesday’s morning’s snowy commute, but emergency crews in Sylvania said they’ve never seen one like this before.

An SUV ended up in an above-ground pool in the backyard of a residence near Convent Boulevard and Brinthaven Drive, said Sylvania Police Capt. Frederick Schnoor.

The two-vehicle crash, which resulted in the vehicle crashing into the pool, was reported at roughly 9:10 a.m.

The driver was traveling on Convent Boulevard in an unknown direction. His vehicle was clipped by another turning from Brinthaven Drive, Captain Schnoor said.

The clipped vehicle went off the road and over a curb, through a yard and a fence before crashing through the flexible walls of a pool, Captain Schnoor said.

The pool had about 3 feet of water in it. Once the vehicle entered the pool, all of the water moved to one side of the pool, the captain said. But once the water leveled out, the wall — where the car crashed through — popped back into place.

“I’m shocked it didn’t break,” he said.

Crews from the Sylvania Township Fire Department responded, where they found the driver had exited the car without injury.

The driver of the second vehicle was also not injured, police said.

The crash report was not completed as of 1 p.m.
