Pastor celebrates 25 years

The Rev. Cedric Brock is celebrating his 25th pastoral anniversary at Mount Nebo Baptist Church, where he has served throughout the entirety of his ministry career. The congregation is set to recognize him and his wife, First Lady Debra Brock, on Sunday.

As the longtime president of the city’s Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, the pastor’s influence stretches well beyond the walls of his church. He also serves as an ombudsman for Toledo Public Schools and is a former director of Partners Empowering Community Safety.

"It's been a blessed 25 years working with church family and community," he said.

Bishop Brehon Hall of New Psalmist Church guest preaches at an anniversary service at 11:30 a.m.; Bishop Michael Pitts of Cornerstone Church guest preaches at 4 p.m. Mount Nebo is at 831 N. Detroit Ave.

Women called to prayer

Women from across the region are invited to “pray and worship together as mothers, daughters, and sisters” on June 16. Rise Up: Women, a first-time event being held at Cherry Street Mission’s Life Revitalization Center, invites prayer intentions for families, the city, and the nation.

The day will be split into two sessions: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., with time for independent lunch scheduled between sessions. To register or for more information, go to bit.ly/2sBJDyL. The venue is at 1501 Monroe St.

Focus on Father’s Day

Cornerstone Church hosts a three-day event over Father’s Day weekend that’s geared at encouraging men of all ages to put their faith and families forward. Every Man, organized with the support of six local pastors, invites local business leaders, elected officials, and former professional athletes to speak on the importance of male involvement in the community, as well offers opportunities for worship and discussions on life issues relevant to men.

Every Man begins with breakfast at 10 a.m. June 16. Derek Anderson, of NBA and Olympic renown, is the keynote speaker at the Maumee Campus. It continues with services at various churches on June 17 and a roundtable discussion at 7 p.m. June 18 at the Downtown Campus.

Tickets are $10 and needed only for the breakfast. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to everymanweekend.com.

‘Christ Camp’

Zion Lutheran Church in Ottawa Lake, Mich., hosts a first-time Christ Camp between June 18 and July 24. Children, who will be grouped by ages 6 to 10, 11 to 13, and 14 to 18, can register for free at bit.ly/christcamp.

Campers will participate in athletics, art, and off-site field trips, as well as spiritual reflection. Dr. Murray Howe, son of hockey legend Gordie Howe, will be a mentoring presence at the camp; his book, Nine Lessons I Learned from My Father, will be highlighted throughout the summer.

The free camp is supported by the Women of Zion, as well as the congregation and community. For more information, contact tjrdet@aol.com or 734-856-2921.
