Toledo artist Adam Grant designed a Paint by Number version of "The Last Supper" in 1964. The artist proof is on display at 20 North Gallery.

  • An original Paint by Number design by late Toledo artist Adam Grant has been chosen to be part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.

The Last Supper was designed and painted by Grant in 1964, during his time as a Paint By Number artist for the Craft Master company. Until it travels to the Smithsonian, the piece will remain on view in downtown Toledo as part of an exhibition of Grant’s work and work by local and national artists collected by his wife, Peggy Grant, at 20 North Gallery, 18 N. St. Clair St. Peggy Grant also worked at Craft Master and met her husband there.

“Ever since Peggy Grant served as a consultant to the 2001 Smithsonian Paint by Number exhibit, she hoped that the artist proof of The Last Supper would find a permanent home in their collection. But on a larger scale, the fulfillment of this plan is recognition of the indelible impact that Peggy and Adam Grant have had on popular culture in our nation,” said gallery owner Eric Hillenbrand.

The show at 20 North, which remains open through March 31, is a collection of pieces in a wide variety of media that Peggy Grant acquired during her time as a corporate curator and national consultant. The collection also contains pieces by her late husband that she kept over the years.

All of the pieces in the show are for sale. For more information on the show, the gallery, or to view an online catalog of Grant’s pieces, go to 20northgallery.com or call 419-241-2400.
