Monday Memories: Honoring a civil rights leader Today is a federal holiday, commemorating the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. This Blade photograph by Luke Black was taken Jan. 18, 1983, as Toledoans marched in honor of the slain civil rights leader. The procession route was from Lo Salem Missionary Baptist Church on Vance Street to the Martin Luther King Center on Nebraska Avenue. The march was preceded by a memorial service at the church, featuring a speech by Toledo Municipal Judge Charles Doneghy, and followed with a dinner for the marchers when they reached the center. PHOTO GALLERY: Pictures of the Week, January 9-15, 2017 Mr. King was born Jan. 19, 1929. He was assassinated April 4, 1968, while on a civil rights mission in Memphis. But his dream of achieving racial equality and an integrated society continues today.

"Parkour is kind of like physical music for me," Danny Watson, a junior at Bowling Green State University, said after practicing parkour at the university Wednesday, January 11, 2017, in Bowling Green. Practicers of Parkour aim to move from one location to another in the fastest way without the aid of equipment. Urban structural obstacles are the usual course of choice. Mr. Watson, who is studying to become an English instructor, said he became interested in Parkour after 14 years of wrestling for the physical challenge and its non-competitive nature. He is currently working on a certification to become a Parkour instructor to help others learn in a safe way.
