Blade photographers win multiple ONPA awards

  • Three Blade photographers won first place awards at the 2017 Ohio News Photographers Association contest last weekend.

    Chief photographer Dave Zapotosky won first place in spot news; photographer Katie Rausch won first place in news picture story, and photographer Kurt Steiss won first in pictoral. Scroll through the gallery above to see the first-place photos.

    Overall, The Blade won 18 awards in the contest. The newspaper’s photo department was third place in photography staff of the year in large markets, while Ms. Rausch was third place in large market photographer of the year. Jeremy Wadsworth was second in monthly clip contest photographer of the year.

    Second place awards went to Mr. Wadsworth (general news) and Andy Morrison (news picture story).

    Ms. Rausch won third place and an award of excellence in spot news. She also won third place in sports photographer of the year, along with another third place in sports picture story.

    Awards of excellence went to Mr. Wadsworth (spot news, feature picture story, and pictoral); Amy E. Voigt (general news); Mr. Morrison (feature); and Ms. Rausch (sports feature).
