Police: East Toledo man robbed multiple stores at gunpoint

An East Toledo man accused of robbing multiple businesses at gunpoint last month was arrested Tuesday by Toledo police. 

Aaron L. Maddox, 23, of the 250 block of Maryland Avenue, is charged with three counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, all first-degree felonies, and misdemeanor offenses of theft and falsification. 

He is also charged with making a false statement to police after officers say Mr. Maddox told them his name was “James Lawson,” when confronted at Kenwood Boulevard and Douglas Road in West Toledo. 

Mr. Maddox is accused of pointing a gun at a clerk and demanding cash on April 16 at the Stop N Shop, 2515 W. Laskey Rd., according to an affidavit filed in Toledo Municipal Court. It was unknown how much money was taken. 

A week later, Mr. Maddox returned to the convenience store and robbed a different clerk at gunpoint, according court documents, taking between $250 to $300 in cash. 

On April 29, police say Mr. Maddox pointed a pistol at two Family Dollar employees at 2849 W. Central Ave. and demanded money, according to court documents. It is unknown how much money Mr. Maddox took.

Mr. Maddox additionally has a pending theft charge stemming from an April 3 shoplifting incident at at Home Depot, 1035 W. Alexis Rd., according to court documents.

Mr. Maddox was arrested by Toledo police Tuesday and booked in the Lucas County jail, according to court records. 

He was arraigned Wednesday in Toledo Municipal Court, where bond was set at $300,000. 

Mr. Maddox is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing May 23.
