Toledo Police investigate a shooting that occurred in the early afternoon of Thursday in the 700 block of Highland Avenue near North Detroit Avenue.

Toledo police are investigating Thursday’s fatal shooting of a man in the central city.
Officers responded to the scene at about 12:40 p.m. Thursday initially for a disturbance call, which was upgraded to a person shot while crews were en route, Toledo police Capt. Joe Heffernan said.

Kyle Newton, 23, lay in an alley next to a home in the 700 block of Highland Avenue, near Detroit Avenue. His body was covered by a tarp.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, Captain Heffernan said.
“Right now, we don’t have really much more to go on,” he said.

A vehicle possibly involved in the incident was noted and a description was given to police.
