Hollywood Casino Toledo sees slight bump in gambling revenue

    • Gamblers increased their spending at two of Ohio’s four state-authorized casinos in September but overall, casino revenues dropped nearly 1 percent last month.

    Hollywood Casino Toledo, owned by Penn National Gaming, was one of the two gambling houses that saw an increase.

    Revenues at the local casino rose 0.1 percent in September to $16.28 million, according to figures release Tuesday by the Ohio Casino Control Commission. A year ago revenues were $16.26 million.

    Jack Cincinnati Casino also experienced an increase last month. Revenues at that casino, owned by Jack Entertainment, rose to $16.2 million, up about 3 percent from $15.7 million for the same period a year ago.

    Revenues at Toledo’s sister operation, Hollywood Casino Columbus, were down nearly 5 percent to $17.4 million last month. A year ago, revenues at the Columbus casino reached $18.3 million.

    Totals also were down at Jack’s second Ohio operation, the Jack Cleveland Casino. There they totaled $16.6 million in September, down about 1 percent compared to a year ago when revenues totaled $16.8 million.

    Overall, revenues from the four casinos totaled $66.5 million in September, down 0.9 percent from the same period a year ago when they totaled $67.1 million.

    The figures from the casino commission, which oversees slots and table gambling in Ohio, are gambling totals only. Sales from food, drinks, merchandise, and events at the casinos are not included in the commission's totals.

    The Toledo casino’s year-to-date revenues totaled $152.9 million, up nearly 2 percent from the same nine-month period in 2017, when revenues totaled $150.2 million.

    Statewide totals through the first nine months were $626.9 million, up nearly 2 percent from a year ago when revenue totals through September were $615.9 million.

    At Ohio’s seven racinos, which are located at horse racetracks, pair slots and video gaming, and are governed by the Ohio Lottery Commission, fiscal September, 2019, revenue totaled $85.7 million. That was up 8 percent from fiscal September, 2018, when revenues totaled $79.3 million.
