UT's Fisher could become more involved in pass game

Sophomore tight end should see more targets as season progresses

Sophomore Jordan Fisher has taken most of the snaps at the tight end position for the University of Toledo so far this season. He has taken a back-seat in the receiving pecking order to guys like Cody Thompson, Diontae Johnson, and Danzel McKinley-Lewis.

A year after tight end Michael Roberts turned in a season for the ages and established himself as one of the best red-zone threats in the country, Fisher and the tight end position in general haven’t been used as much in the passing game. All that is to be expected with a young tight end replacing a fourth-round NFL Draft pick.

Fisher, however, became more involved in the passing game against Eastern Michigan this past Saturday with three catches for 25 yards. Prior to Saturday’s game, Fisher had just one catch all season. One has to wonder whether that will become more of a trend with Thompson having a season-ending injury. Thompson’s targets have to go to someone. While they are likely to be spread around to multiple receivers, Fisher could see his share as well as evidenced by the Eastern Michigan game.

Look for Fisher to become more involved against Central Michigan on Saturday.
