The Tigers will open spring training on Feb. 13, which means baseball season is coming. Here is a daily look at players with possible ties to the 2018 Mud Hens, whose home opener is set for April 12 against Pawtucket.

RHP Matt West

History: The Tigers signed West to a minor-league contract after he made a brief appearance in Japan last season, pitching in just two games for the Orix Buffaloes. The Houston native pitched in the majors for Texas in 2014, allowing three runs in four innings, and for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015, giving up two hits in three scoreless innings. In 2016 he made 39 relief appearances for Oklahoma City, the Dodgers’ affiliate in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, and West posted a 3-0 record with six saves and a 2.33 ERA.

Future: The 29-year-old right-hander did not receive an invitation to spring training. While he may pitch some innings for the Tigers in spring training, it’s more likely he will begin the 2018 season with the Mud Hens.
