The Tigers will open spring training on Feb. 13, which means baseball season is coming. Here is a daily look at players with possible ties to the 2018 Mud Hens, whose home opener is set for April 12 vs. Pawtucket.

IF Nico Goodrum

History: The Tigers signed Goodrum to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. Last season he reached the majors for the first time, batting 1-for-17 (.059) with 10 strikeouts in 11 games with Minnesota. Goodrum also played in 127 games with Triple-A Rochester, hitting .265 with 13 homers and 66 RBIs. This is his first season outside the Twins organization. In 2016, he hit .275 with seven homers and 33 RBIs while splitting time between Hi-A and Double-A.

Future: The versatile Goodrum, who turns 26 later this month, originally was a shortstop, but last season saw action with Rochester at every position but catcher and pitcher. He will battle for a backup role in Detroit, but it is more likely that he will begin the season with the Mud Hens.
