The Tigers will open spring training on Feb. 13, which means baseball season is coming. Here is a daily look at players with possible ties to the 2018 Mud Hens, whose home opener is set for April 12 vs. Pawtucket.

RHP Beau Burrows

History: The Tigers selected Burrows out of high school with the 22nd overall pick in the 2015 draft, and he has not disappointed. He began last season with Hi-A Lakeland and was 4-3 with a 1.23 ERA in 11 starts, striking out 62 in 58⅔ innings, to earn a promotion to Double-A Erie. With the SeaWolves the right-hander was 6-4 with a 4.72 ERA in 15 starts. Last season Burrows ranked sixth in the organization with his 3.20 ERA, and his 137 strikeouts in 135 innings were third-most among Tigers minor leaguers.

Future: Both Baseball America and MiLB.com rank Burrows as the fourth-best prospect in Detroit’s farm system entering this season. Because he is just 21 years old, he probably will begin this season with Erie as he continues to work on his repertoire of breaking pitches. But don’t count out a promotion to Toledo if he has success with the SeaWolves.
