Colleen Stamper and Santiago Rease were shot to death in a North Toledo alley on Jan. 11. She attended Woodward High School.

  • Two Toledo men were indicted Friday on murder charges stemming from the shooting of a man and woman in a North Toledo alley.

Sidney Slater, Jr., 27, of the 300 block of Sumner Street, and Ricky D. Thompson, III, 19, of the 400 block of Troy Street each were indicted on two counts of aggravated murder, murder, and felonious assault, and one count of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

The charges stem from the Jan. 11 shooting deaths of Santiago Rease, 20, and Colleen Stamper, 19.

Jeff Lingo, chief of the criminal division for the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office, said investigators allege three assailants, including Mr. Slater and Mr. Thompson, entered a home at 2826 N. Erie St., where three people inside were held at gunpoint and robbed.

Moments later, Mr. Rease and Ms. Stamper pulled up in a car.

“As Mr. Rease goes to go in the house, there's a confrontation, and he is shot multiple times and drops to the ground,” Mr. Lingo said. “The shooter then fires multiple times at the car,” striking Ms. Stamper at least once.

Both Mr. Slater and Mr. Thompson were arrested last week and are being held in the Lucas County jail on aggravated burglary and other charges related to the incident. The third person believed to be involved has not been identified, Mr. Lingo said.

He declined to discuss a motive for the double homicide.

“We're not releasing further details because there's still an unidentified person yet to be charged,” Mr. Lingo said.
