One dead, second injured in central Toledo shooting

A city man was killed and a woman wounded when a gunman opened fire Tuesday in central Toledo.
Toledo police said Tyrone Armstrong, 18, was shot shortly after 10 a.m. in the 1500 block of Vance Street, near Junction Avenue. He was taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center and later pronounced dead.
The second victim, Chantel Flee, 25, is expected to survive her gunshot wounds, police said. A ProMedica Toledo Hospital spokesman said no patient information was available.
The two were inside a parked car when an unidentified shooter fired. Two neighbors said they heard about 14 shots. Both victims were taken by private vehicle to the hospital before police arrived.

Ms. Flee's sister, Cortney Coleman, said she heard the gunshots, grabbed her child, and jumped to the floor.
She then heard a vehicle drive off at high speed toward North Detroit Avenue, but she did not see the car.
“We shouldn't have to wake up to this. We shouldn’t have to be scared to sit outside of our house. It's crazy. It's crazy. This needs to end,” Ms. Coleman, 27, said.
Ms. Coleman said her sister and Mr. Armstrong were in a relationship. These fatal shootings should not happen, she said.
“Why can't people just live in peace? It's a mess,” she said.
Mr. Armstrong's killing is the 38th homicide in Toledo so far this year, exceeding 36 in 2016. Toledo police say they have solved 23 of this year’s cases.
Mr. Armstrong and Ms. Flee are the fifth and sixth gunshot victims this month in four shootings. There have been 158 people shot citywide in 2017, according to a Blade review of police records.
Two months ago, the city also recorded the double shooting of a couple inside a car.
Police found Gregory Stone and Deiyana Porter, both 18, with gunshot wounds Oct. 10 behind a house in the 700 block of Brighton Avenue.
