The GM Powertrain Transmission plant was evacuated early Saturday after an allegedly armed man involved in a separate offense was believed to have jumped a fence onto the property, according to Toledo police.

Jesse Orourke, of the 5800 block of Pickard Drive in West Toledo, called 911 after a man was reportedly attempting to break into his car, police said. It was reported just before 5 a.m. Saturday.

Mr. Orourke told police he confronted the man, but the man drew a handgun and threatened Mr. Orourke, according to a police report.

Police arrived and the man fled the scene after he had been told to stop. He then ran southbound across Alexis Road, toward the GM plant, police said.

Officers believed he jumped the fence onto the GM plant property, located in the 1400 block of West Alexis Road, according to police.

Police notified the plant’s security team and officers set up a perimeter around the plant. The man was not located around or inside the building, police said.

The plant’s security team decided to evacuate about 150 on-duty employees, police said.

The plant’s cameras, the perimeter, and buildings were checked, but no one was located. The employees were allowed to return to work.

Police later located the man at a Speedway, near the plant. Devan Calbert, 24, of the 5100 block of Norwich Road, was taken into custody and booked in the Lucas County jail.

He is charged with aggravated menacing, obstructing official business, both misdemeanor charges, and he has outstanding felony warrants, police said.
