On November 26, 1958, Blade photographer Herral Long captured the spirit of several first-graders at Warren School as they re-enacted the first Thanksgiving. The students wore clothes and hats roughly similar to those worn by Pilgrims in 1621. Shown giving thanks are three 6-year-olds, from left, Mace Stuart of Prescott St., Georgette DeAlmeida of Franklin Ave., and Michael Loredo of Southard Ave.

Third grade teacher Carey Bryant spearheaded the school-wide voting process. She secured stickers from the Board of Elections for the students who voted. Volunteers manned check-in stations where students presented identification cards they had made in class and received a ballot to be secretly cast. "I hope the kids realize every vote counts," Ms. Bryant said. "I hope they feel their voice is heard and understand that democracy is a process that works." In total 381 votes were cast with 286 going to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and 95 for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
