Motorists stranded in South Toledo as rain pounds the area

Toledo police and city emergency crews Tuesday evening assisted motorists whose vehicles got stuck in high water as rain pounded the area.

At least two vehicles got disabled between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the intersection of City Park and Anthony Wayne Trail and at Shea Street and Airport Highway in south Toledo, according to Toledo police. There were no reports of injuries.

About three-quarters of an inch of rainfall was recorded at the Toledo Express Airport about 8 p.m., said Jordan Root, a meteorologist for AccuWeather Inc., the private forecasting service in State College, Pa. The rain started about 6 p.m. and ended about 8 p.m., he said.

On Wednesday, there will be a 20 percent chance of showers before 11 a.m. and then of showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to the National Weather  Service. It will be partly sunny, with a temperature high near 84 degrees, west wind of 8 to 16 mph, and wind gusts of up to 26 mph.
